Summary

Fiat Urban Cross has 4 versions available in India from which 1 is petrol and 3 are diesel cars. Fiat Urban Cross comes in 6 colours, namely, Bossanova White, Bronzo Tan, Exotica Red, Hip Hop Black, Magnesio Grey, Minimal Grey.

The Urban Cross is a slightly toned down version of the Fiat Avventura crossover that was first unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo. It is based on the Punto platform and shares majority of its underpinnings and interior with the former. It is the Italian automaker’s entry into the now trending hatchback segment which has been getting a lot of attention from Indian buyers lately. Other players in this segment at the moment include the Volkswagen Cross Polo and the Toyota Etios Cross.
The Urban Cross competes against the existing hatchback-based crossover models including the Volkswagen Cross Polo and the Toyota Etios Cross. Fiat India is hoping for this new model to attract a new breed of buyers looking for a rugged looking vehicle but with all the practicality of a compact hatchback.

The Urban Cross has the same interior room as the standard Punto Evo so that means it’s very spacious and has loads of headroom. Given that the entire car has an adventure theme, the interior too has been modified in this manner. Standard features on the top-spec models include climate control, rear ac vents, adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable mirrors, audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and alloy wheels. On the safety front, the car has dual airbags and ABS with EBD.

Although the Urban Cross is based on the same platform which also underpins the Punto hatchback, it gets rugged design bits like bash plates, plastic cladding and roof rails to make it look like a mini off-roader. The front-end has been modified in the form of sleek headlights that seem to grow out of the side of the hood. It also gets a one piece mesh grill and air intake which have been separated using a grey coloured front bash plate.

On the side, the Urban Cross has the same overall design as the Punto but appears larger than life thanks to the body cladding and bigger wheels. There is also moulding on the side which has the words Avventura written on it in a rather prominent font. The rear bumper too is taken off the latter to complete the stylish look.

The Urban Cross is available with one petrol and one diesel engine option. The 1.4-litre is Fiat’s FIRE engine producing 89bhp of power and 115Nm of torque. The diesel engine is the familiar 1.3-litre Multijet mill churning out 92bhp and 209Nm of torque. These engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the front wheels.
