      Cartrade Comparison Test

The two cars we have chosen here - Tata Vista and Maruti Suzuki Celerio - belong to different segments, but the purpose behind launching both these products was same – to offer a car that is affordable, fuel efficient and good-looking. Besides that, both the cars have been instant hits for their respective makers. That said, the Vista being a little old now doesn’t fetch the volumes it used to when it first came.

Maruti Suzuki launched the Celerio hatchback in the country as a replacement for the A-Star hatch. It is positioned between the Wagon R and the Ritz hatchback, and offers a decent cabin space to accommodate five adults and boot space to carry your daily luggage. This hatchback comes equipped with first-in-segment AMT gearbox that makes it a perfect city car. The Vista, on the other hand, is one of the most fuel-efficient and spacious hatchbacks that we have in the Indian market today.

Here’s our comparison between the two cars, in case you are considering one of these.

      Exteriors and Interiors

The Indica eV2 is a compact hatchback that looks pretty alright, though the segment, it belongs to, now has better looking products. And that is the reason why Tata brought the Bolt as a more premium offering. The Vista features electrically operated outside rear view mirrors with integrated turn indicators, a triple-step chrome tip grille, body coloured door handles and bumpers, clear lens headlamps and indicators, and 14-inch wheels covered with 165/65 R14-sized puncture-resistant radial tyres. It comes with dual-tone interiors in Sahara Beige and Ebony Black. The centre console gets metallic silver shade, while the seats are covered in fabric. Other additions include four-spoke steering wheel, spot lights, tachometer, magazine pockets, bottle holders and blackened dashboard. When it comes to safety and security of passengers, the car has keyless entry, central locking with remote, child safety lock, a collapsible steering and an engine immobilizer.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio came as a replacement for the A-Star and Estilo. Based on the A-Wind concept showcased at the Thailand Motor Show, the small hatchback comes with stylish exterior. It follows the tall boy hatch design which contributes to its easy ingress and egress. Upfront is the new curved two-slat grille which is flanked by angular shaped headlamps. The top-end variant comes with a new set of alloy wheels. At the rear, the car has newly styled tail lamp clusters, horizontal lines, and curved bumper. Inside the cabin, the Celerio has beige and black upholstery, Bluetooth enabled music system, electrically adjustable ORVMs, three-spoke steering wheel and good audio system. It comes with dual airbags and ABS. The vehicle comes with 235-litres of boot, which is more than sufficient to accommodate 2 suitcases.

      Engine Specs

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder K-Series petrol engine that churns out 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. This engine is paired to five-speed automated manual transmission and five-speed manual transmission. The AMT variant is claimed to return an impressive 23.1kmpl of mileage.

The Tata Indica eV2 is powered by a 1.4-litre common rail direct injection diesel engine that churns out 69bhp of power at 4000rpm and 140Nm of torque. This engine is paired to a five-speed manual gearbox, which sends power to the front wheels of the car. It is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 25kmpl.

      Conclusion

The Celerio is, currently, the country's most fuel efficient petrol automatic car, with a claimed mileage of 23.1kmpl. On the other hand, the Indica offers an ARAI certified mileage of 25kmpl. Talking about the styling, the Celerio is undoubtedly more modern and appealing than the Indica. However, the Indica is more spacious than Maruti Suzuk’s small car.
