      Cartrade Comparison Test

MPVs are the right choice for someone looking for a big car to carry more passengers. India has seen many MPV launches off late with multiple offerings available across the budget. Datsun Go Plus sits at the very starting of this range, followed by more premium solutions like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio. The Toyota Innova is known as the segment leader since its dominance has never been challenged by the likes of Tata, Mahindra and other car manufacturers. Renault too has put its step in this race with Lodgy, its compact yet premium offering. Based on the highly popular compact SUV Duster, Lodgy is a unique MPV with dynamics of a SUV. Another MPV which sits at a humble corner of the segment is Chevrolet Enjoy. It surely didn’t get the sales chart burning but surely has potential to be a strong contender in the budget range. Here is our compare.

Exterior and Interior Design: Renault Lodgy Vs Chevrolet Enjoy

The outside of Renault Lodgy is, comparatively, more attractive with its Duster inspired design theme. It is as boxy as a conventional MPV but Renault has tried really hard to make it look more appealing than other offerings by giving it a muscular touch. The twin slat grille flows horizontally around the solid Renault logo placed at the centre. The front bumper gradually flows out from the headlight giving it a car like design.

It also gets a two tone finish with the lower portion finished in matte also forming an air splitter and fog lamps housing. The chrome touch given all over looks decent. Chevy’s Enjoy is not much of a joy when it comes to exterior design. It has minimalistic contours with a simple feel. It is 4305mm in length and 1750mm in height which is more than the Ertiga but then the Ertiga is wider than the Enjoy. Moreover, the Ertiga scores more in terms of sheer looks as it is more compact in dimensions and yet is a mass people mover.

Renault again score more over Chevy in terms of interiors as the Lodgy too gets Duster inspired trims and materials. The built quality is as strong but lacks the upmarket feel of other cars available for the same price. Renault’s attempt in making sure the Lodgy feels more appealing than competition has paid off well, which can be seen in the right colour combination of Gris Fume and Beige used in the interiors. The nicely stitched leather seats feel comfortable. All three row seats get leather as standard for the top spec variant. The under thigh support too is decent for first and second rows while the third bench type seat just fulfils the basic need.

In the Chevrolet Enoy, the headroom feels amazing and so does the legroom. Even in the second row, the seating comfort is superb. In our LTZ variant, we had captain seats which were finished in good quality leather. The seats are beige in color. It is not the widest MPV on sale but it manages to seat all passengers very comfortably. The third row can seat 2 adults conveniently.

Performance: Renault Lodgy Vs Chevrolet Enjoy

Chevrolet offers Enjoy with a new 1.4L Petrol SMARTECH Engine which produces a power output of 104PS at 6000 rpm and a torque of 131Nm at 4400 rpm. This engine comes with a 5 speed manual transmissions. The 1.3L SMARTECH Turbo-charged Diesel Engine has been sourced from the Sail sedan. This one produces a maximum power of 77.5PS at 4000 rpm and a torque of 188Nm at 1750 rpm.

Sharing its heart with the compact SUV, the Lodgy too is available in two diesel engine options. Firstly, the more efficient 85PS engine which makes a torque output of 200Nm followed by the more powerful 110PS engine which makes greater torque of 245Nm at lesser rpm. The 110PS engine is available in a manual 6-speed transmission while the 85PS will come fitted with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Conclusion: Renault Lodgy Vs Chevrolet Enjoy

The better one with more features and appeal is definitely Renault Lodgy. The Honda Mobilio and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga are based on a hatchback platform and thus don’t do justice to the MPV tag, they are best suited to be station wagons or hatchbacks with more luggage space and practicality. Chevrolet Enjoy may not have the finishing of a great MPV and also the interiors aren’t top notch either but even the Enjoy does not let you down in any case. It can take in a large family with ease.
