Recently Chevrolet launched the luxury sedan Cruze; here we have a look at the different features of the same.

The new Cruze is powered by a 1991 cc 4 cylinder diesel engine which delivers an output of 150 PS@4000 rpm and 327 NM@2600 rpm of torque. The front suspension is provided with McPherson struts and cylindrical coil springs. The rear suspension is a compound crank type with nonlinear, mini block coil springs. Exterior

The glory of the Chevrolet Cruze begins with the external appearance. It is bigger bodied, and curvaceous with respect to its appearance. The dimensions make it the biggest in its class. With a length of 4597mm, width of 1788mm, height of 1477mm, and ground clearance of 165mm, it is suitable for all kinds of driving conditions in India.

The front design has a bolder shape, clear headlights, and impressive chrome grill cover. The rear, as claimed, is designed based on the coupe style, the split designed tail lamps and wider, dickey door with smooth curves leaves a great impression on the onlookers.

The Cruze comes in 6 colours: Altis blue, Light Gold, Olympic White, Velvet Red, Misty Lake, and Caviar Black.

Interior

The combination of its external appearance and internal features set the Cruze apart from the rest of its competitors. The three gauge instrument cluster is artfully designed. The digital driver information display is intelligent and provides information of fuel remaining, fuel consumption, odometer reading, and average speed. The three spoke steering wheel has thicker rims and stylish spokes with provision to have clear view at the instrument cluster. The centrally placed controls for the HVAC and 6 CD Changer with MP3 compatibility make the driver’s stance a rather comfortable one for maximum driving pleasure.

The Cruze has a set of instruments which add much to its comfort and convenience. First is the AC which has a pollutant and odour filtration system. It keeps the cabin clean and cool. Second is the adjustable steering column which allows a driver to select the most comfortable angle and distance. Third, the Cruze has parking sensors which seem to have become a pretty standard feature in modern cars. There is ample storage space including the usual frills such as cup and sunglass holders. A unique feature of this Chevy is the “follow me home” feature which makes the headlights remain on even after switching off the engine and locking the doors. This helps while walking away from a parking space since there is ample light. It can be programmed as desired. This feature particularly demonstrates the attention to details that has gone into this vehicle. The anti-theft mechanism prevents cruise control to work in case of attempted operation with wrong keys and a siren is sounded as well.

The most important feature in Cruze is the Passive entry passive start system. You can enter the car with out using keys. Just a smooth push on the hand lock is enough to unlock the door (as long as the key is within 1 meter distance from the instrument cluster). A push button ignition feature is provided near the central instrument console. A simple push starts the super smooth engine. The cruise control feature is also included which allows the driver to set a constant speed at which the car will run without having to operate the pedals. If brakes are applied, cruise control will immediately shut off and will have to be reactivated. Rain sensing wipers are another great feature that adds to the Cruzes luxury.

The key accessories provided include an easy to use air pump which can be used in case of low pressure in the tyres. Other accessories provided are illuminated door sill plates, chrome weather guard, and an in-car refrigerator for many a long ride!

Performance

The Cruze is equipped with dual air bags, Antilock braking system ensures passenger safety and provides comfortable handling on slippery roads. The boot lid also works as an emergency exit door and can be operated by a lever from the inside. Strong hood structure and a rigid safety cage reinforced with tubular bars and reinforced pillars ensure complete passenger safety.

Conclusion

The Chevrolet Cruze is a challenging luxury sedan with unmatched power and torque in that segment. It is equipped with features usually found in much more expensive cars. Spacious interiors, Passive entry, Passive start, Cruise control, an ice refrigerator etc, all make it a great luxury car for the price. Personally, the Cruze has come to replace the Accord in my eyes.
