About BMW 3 Series GT

BMW 3 Series GT has 3 versions available in India from which 1 is petrol and 2 are diesel cars. BMW 3 Series GT comes in 5 colours, namely, Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Galcier Silver, Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect, Sparkling Brown.

BMW has revised the 3 Series GT after its launch around three years ago. The GT series had been introduced to India with the 5 Series first. The car was big and spacious but costed a bomb. With the 3 Series GT coming in, the GT badge became more affordable. This is a mid-life upgrade with a facelift and a few changes on the equipment list.

The 3 GT sits half a segment above the 3 Series or the Mercedes C-Class and lower than the Mercedes E-Class and the Audi A6 and hence doesn’t have any direct competition. The added space in the back and in the boot has pushed many to opt for the 3 GT rather than the 3 Series sedan.

The 1995 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 19 kmpl in city and 21 kmpl on highways, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 14 kmpl on urban roads and 16 kmpl and freeways, respectively.

The 3 GT cabin is spacious and luxurious. The understated dark interior exudes comfort and quality and now gets some new equipment. The infotainment interface has been revamped with a new screen and software and gets USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity including a GPS navigation system. The front seats are electrically adjustable and it gets electrically adjustable and retractable wing mirrors and a sunroof as well. Cruise control, dual-zone climate control along with start-stop button and keyless entry are standard. It has more interior space thanks to the seats that can be pushed back due to the added length and extended roofline. The boot space is also better than the 2 Series.

It comes with 6 airbags standard along with driving aids like ABS, EBD, traction control, hill-hold control et al in addition to the structural safety that is built in from the design stages.

The LED headlamps are all new but retain the signature twin rings accompanying the kidney grille on the front fascia. It looks almost the same as the 3 series sedan but gets new bumpers in the front as well as in the back. The 3 Series GT stands out when you move on to the sides as the roof extends further back and slopes in to the boot like a coupe. The facelift will also come with a new design of alloys. The deployable hidden spoiler will continue to adorn the notchback-like boot lid. The tail lamps are again signature BMW and the car looks big from behind due to the high boot.

The 3 GT will be offered with the same existing 2.0-litre diesel engine that develops 184bhp of power and 380Nm of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox driving the rear wheels. You can also opt for the sporty 248bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the right set of wheels through an eight-speed manual gearbox as well.

BMW 3 Series GT Expert Review

BMW India launched the updated 2017 3 Series Gran Turismo (GT) in India last year. The changes are in line with the tweaks the 3 Series sedan gets. But is the revamped GT still good enough to live up to its name? Will it cater to those people who are looking for a spacious, practical, economical yet fast family car? We took it out for a long drive to find out.

The changes made to the exterior design of this latest iteration of the 3 Series GT are minimal. They are in line with BMW’s current design language and similar to what we have already seen on the 3 Series facelift. Up front, the headlamps have been transformed into full LED units with LED daytime running lights. Bumpers on both the front and the rear end have been redesigned in this facelifted car. The detailing on the tail lamps at the rear is also similar to what we have seen on the new 3 Series – sharp and striking. The facelifted vehicle still looks elegant and rides on new 18-inch alloy wheels. Read More
