Pop princess, Britney Spears arrived with a bang in 1999 and then followed it up with her second successful studio album a year later. She did score a few more chartbusters after that, but has been more in the news for her controversial behaviour both on and off the stage. Among the many things about her, Britney by virtue of her early success, did go on to earn a stupendous amount of money. And what do people do when they have a lot of money, they splurge. Well, automobiles have been a thing for the pop princess and Britney has been known to own quite a few noted marques over the years, Maserati cars included.
Britney Spears’ Maserati Gran Turismo happens to be one of the favourites in her illustrious garage and here’s a few things about the car. The car may not be the best handler in the manufacturer’s portfolio, but it sure is among the best looking of the Maserati cars line-up.
The car first broke cover at the Motor Show in Geneva, all the way back in 2007. Sporting a slippery silhouette, the car had a 4.2 litre V8 motor that it shared with some of the finest from the house of Ferrari. The Gran Turismo wasn’t designed to be an all-out track-car, rather, it was a car for the real world. Well, at-least a world that’s as real as it is for the ones with bags of money to afford such fine wheels. True to its GT moniker, the car is built for comfort and luxury of the highest level possible. With 400 bhp of power on tap that’s available on command via a flex of the foot, harnessing those horses is a breeze, thanks to the six-speed automatic transmission.
When launched, the Gran Turismo was proof that Maserati cars had finally shed the last vestiges of their difficult ways of old. The car came loaded to the gills, the cabin was upholstered lavishly and to great taste, while also being up there on the gizmo’s list, with a 30 GB storage drive and working satellite navigation for the time. The car was a motoring icon and continues to be so even to this day, through its many variants over the years.
Britney Spears’ Maserati Gran Turismo may have been but a passing indulgence for the artist, but for automotive fans, the sight of the car still causes the heart to flutter a bit every time.
