Back in 2012, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who had been one of the most bankable stars in Bollywood had given birth to baby Aradhya. To celebrate the arrival of their daughter, father, Abhishek Bachchan decided to bring home a new luxury car as well. The Bachchan family has always been held in high regard and their love for fine automobiles has been well documented.
The Bachchan’s went on to bring home an Audi A8L, which is the top-of-the-line model in the range at that time. The car was among the longest and widest in its category. It was also among the most luxuriously appointed cars back then and came with all the bells and whistles befitting the modern day czars & czarinas who loved to waft around in absolute luxury.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan however had married into a family of auto-enthusiasts & the A8L was a befitting addition to the clan. Powered by a 4.2 litre diesel engine, it went from standstill to cross 100 kmph in a shade over five seconds! This put it in the company of some of the more exotic sports cars out there.
The V8 motor came with some stupendous specs. It made over 350 bhp & sported a 80 Nm torque figure, which came in at a low 1750 rpm. With full-time all-wheel-drive, yes, that's right, the Audi A8L came with the famed QUATTRO system as standard, the car had a top speed in excess of 200 km/h. Not for nothing did the car earn the moniker of being the fastest diesel powered luxury car to be sold in India at that time.
Four years later, baby Aradhya had grown up sufficiently for her mother to return to the screen and Aishwarya Bachchan went on to star in the movie Jazbaa, which released in October last year. A crime thriller, Jazbaa was directed by acclaimed director, Sanjay Gupta and her performance won her rave reviews from the critics.
The popular actress is now working on two films which are scheduled to release in this year. The first movie will be a biopic on the life of Sarabjit Singh. Meanwhile the other, which should be out in the festive season towards the end of the year is romantic drama with director Karan Johar. Here’s wishing the pretty lady a successful comeback.
