Just like Bollywood celebrities, Indian cricketers, too, are fond of plush and expensive sports cars. Suresh Raina, the aggressive Indian batsman, is one the cricketers who love speeding fast cars such as Porsche Boxster. Therefore, he brought the yellow Boxster Limited Edition, after winning the England series, on his father’s birthday, in 2013.

The Boxster, debuted in 1997, was one of the best-selling Porsche cars in India, which is now in its third-generation. Just like its predecessor, the new model shares some styling cues with the Carman and 911, and looks stunning. It sports stacked 918-esque headlights, detailed character lines, short overhangs and a spoiler. The hybrid platform (half aluminum and remaining steel and magnesium) saves its weight and improves its crash performance.

The still strut based front suspension design provides multiple tuning options to the driver. The Boxter also shares various components with other cars in lineup such as navigation screen gauge cluster, center console layout and more. It’s very plush and comfortable from inside. The driving position is improved, but legroom is still restricted. Powering the Boxster is a 3.4-litre flat 6 engine that develops a maximum power of 326bhp at 6, 700rpm with 266 pound feet of torque at 4, 500rpm. A 7-speed dual clutch PDK and a 6-speed manual transmission are on offer.

The PDK transmission in Sport Plus is faster than the manual one. It accelerates 0-60kmph in just 4.5 seconds. The Boxster S runs smoothly in any gear across different rev-range, while the manual version with perfect gear ratios is more involving and better. It has an electronic speed limit of 172mph. The new Boxster is lighter, more efficient and balanced than most of its rivals. When it comes to handling and driving dynamics, the Boxster is a pure pleasure. Its rigid chassis and tuned suspension enhance it ride quality. It’s a fast, and easy to drive sports car.

The Boxster is one of the most capable Porsches. It has got all what celebrity cars are favored for – i.e. exterior styling, comfort and performance. We have several Porsche cars in India, but they are expensive and have a high cost of ownership that makes them a rare sight.
