Each car owner wants his /her vehicle to be efficient, durable and reliable in longer time. A number of prospective buyers apply several techniques in order to achieve the same from their cars. Some of them try to maintain the fuel economy while others tend for zero-emission vehicles in order to preserve the environment. However, there are a few basic guidelines and energy conservation tips for cars that can be implemented by the modern users. These energy conservation techniques do not require strenuous efforts and can simply be achieved by applying logical thinking. Depending upon the car model, if it’s electric or conventional engine type, the following are some essential energy saving tips:

  1. While planning for a journey, it is always advised to opt for the routes, which have less amount of traffic and one can drive freely on the roads without getting stuck. Although, jams can occur at any route, there are also some highways and freeways, which have a smooth traffic complying on them.`

  1. Among the most important energy conservation tips for cars is to not leave the vehicle idling in traffic jams. Car idling simply means turning the ignition completely off when the car is standing at a signal or amidst traffic. This is one of the essential energy conservation techniques and greatly helps in maintaining the durability of car's engine for long. There are also some new cars in the domestic market that have the provision of new technologies, such as blue motion. Such technologies instantly turn the engine off in case of signals and the driver has to just press the acceleration pedal to start the vehicle again.

  1. One of the most important energy saving tips is to run the air-conditioner of the car on an average thermostat. When the AC unit is running on full thermostat, then the engine is taking a heavy load as the compressor is not getting switched off. Keeping the thermostat on average allows the engine to maintain the cooling capacity of the car and also not take much of energy load.

  1. Auto experts advise that shifting the gears of the car as soon as possible is also one of the significant energy conservation techniques each individual can apply. When the car is driven at low gears, the engine is taking a considerable load. Therefore, one should change to higher gears as soon as the rev counter hits between 2000-3000 rpm.

  1. Energy conservation tips for cars also include the vehicle to be driven smoothly and not to be accelerated unnecessarily. The car's speed needs to be maintained to a level in order to attain the maximum fuel economy figure. Braking slowly, shifting gears smoothly, not pressing clutch pedals hard, and regulating the functioning of electrical equipment of a vehicle are all parts of the basic energy saving tips. Other points to keep in mind for energy conservation are checking tyre pressure, keeping the load inside the car as minimum as possible and completely closing the windows when driving over 70-80 kmph.
