With the advancement in technology, each car maker unveils some or the other revolutionary designs from its lot each day. The technical features in a car, at present, are endless and each of them has their separate utility. Among this scenario, the most prudent auto maker of India, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has decided to bring in its latest innovation, called Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). As the name suggest, this feature is a new type of transmission, which will be assisting the upcoming models of the car maker. AMT is an auto gear shift feature, which will allow the drivers to change gears without the pressing of the clutch.
This newly developed technology is based on an electronic unit, which will control the shifting of the gears. It will be equipped with a precision hydraulic actuator, which will automatically operate the gears of the car. The company claims that with this feature, gear shifting will happen in a quick span as compared to the manual process and the car will deliver a better fuel economic statistic too. This clutchless shift technology has been termed as EZ Drive by the car maker and will be first equipped in its upcoming hatchback, called Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
The auto gear shift technology is easily operable and also looks exactly the same as the conventional automatic gearbox. The gear-lever unit is placed between the two front seats and comprises denotions of N – Neutral, D – Drive and R – Reverse. There is also another slot marked M, which is to bring the car in manual mode. The manual mode further has two signs, namely '+' for upshifting gears and '–' for downshifting. Before starting the engine, ensure that the gear lever is on N mode and the brake pedal is not pressed.
To propel the car, shift the mode to D and after the release of the brake, it will start moving. Initially the car will be moving at a low speed and this is known as the Creep Function, which is highly effective during city jams and traffic hurdles. After accelerating the car, the EZ Drive technology will come to play and will shift gears automatically according to the speed of the car. For decelerating the car, the driver has to just apply the brake and the gears will again be shifted automatically until the car comes to a final halt.
The auto major claims that the benefit of this clutchless gear shift are many, such as efficient mileage of the car, less manual effort and ease of driving. Maruti Cars in India are available in a variety of segments and each has been awarded with some or the other grants for its performance. This auto brand is considered among the most reliable and durable car brands of the world and the same is believed by auto experts. Maruti car dealers are of a view that when this technology will be arriving in the company's upcoming hatchback, Celerio, it will stir quite a buzz among the prospective buyers. It is anticipated that this car along with the new EZ Drive feature will be a boosting factor for the company. Maruti Suzuki India Limited is already the top-notch automobile brand of India and with the advent of such innovation, it will again be appeasing its expansive fan following.
