Upcoming Audi Q2

Audi Q2
December 2020 Expected Launch
28 - 32 Lakh Expected Price

Audi had been developing SUVs smaller than the Q3 but were held up for the availability of the names. Fiat owned the copyrights for the Q1 and the Q2 in Europe and it took Audi quite some time to cajole the Italian manufacturer to let the German conglomerate use the trademarks. With the deal signed over undisclosed terms, Audi has quickly showcased the Audi Q2 at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Q2 is Audi’s smallest SUV yet and will be slotted below the Q3. Built on the MQB platform, the Q2 measures 4191mm in length – smaller than the Renault Duster we have here in India. The Q2 gets the Audi family face of a hexagonal grille and the four rings placed in the centre. The headlamps get LED daytime running lamps elements integrated with the projectors. The Q2 gets cladding that skirts around the car and with the slightly flared wheel arches make the compact SUV look muscular. The tail has its cuts and creases and looks purposeful with the added brawn of the bash plate in the rear bumper.

The interior is in black and gets body coloured highlights on the dashboard. The infotainment display screen is perched on the top of the dash and gets a binnacle of clocks for the instrument cluster. The multifunction display reads out all the necessary information. The Q2 seats five and gets dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control and power seats as standard and an optional sunroof.

Under the hood, the Q2 will be offered with an array of engine options globally including the new 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol that develops 114bhp of power. When it comes to India, the Q2 may be offered with the 1.4 TFSI developing 148bhp of power while the diesel may get the 1.6-litre TDI along with the 2.0-litre TDI. The top-spec variants may be offered with Quattro while all the cars will have the seven-speed S-Tronic gearbox standard.

The Q2 will be on sale in Europe from November 2016 and it will mostly take another year to come to India. The Q2 ideally will compete with the Mercedes GLA Class, the BMW X1 and the Volvo V40 Cross Country and is expected be priced between Rs. 28 Lakh to Rs. 32 Lakh in India.
