Cars Q&A
Hi,
The idea behind 3 cylinder 1.2 l engine is the space reduction and reduction in mechanical losses. It wont affect engine performance provided design is correct.3 cylinder engine wont make much of difference in comparision with that of 4 cylinder engine.
you need not worry..my friend drove polo from bangalore to salem and touched 160km many times without any hussel..these 3 cylinder system will not in any way affect the power for day to day inside city travel.Just note polo driveability is the best compared to its counterparts with 4 cylinders (maruthi and hyundai), you can browse sutocarindia magazine April 2010 issue..which has given indepth review of polo with its comepting range of cars..overall verdict is positive towards polo.If you can afford to wait..polo is going to release diesel engine option and 1.4cc engine also in line for petrol..but these will become pricey.Hence, right now best option is go for comfortline (mid line version) of polo petrol and fit it with a good audio, seat cover, floor mats and enjoy a wonderful ride..this will come down to around 6.3lakhs in bangalore on road.
For the exact same engine dimensions, a three cylinder engine will give fewer power strokes for a given number of engine revolutions - this is simply an engineering fact. But given the refinement of today's engines, particularly from a great maker like VW, you can think of fewer cylinders as an advantage - fewer moving parts and lesser maintenance!
Yes bro Polo as of3 cylinder has a distinct advantage of producing ultimate torque & displacement. With only 1.2cc it's unlike that it will tumble at higher speed.
