Expert`s comment:

Considering the mileage that you do in an year a petrol engine makes much more sense then a diesel as you can justify a diesel engine only if you do at least 18 to 20000 kms.You have not specified your budget but here is a small range of good petrol hatchbacks. 3-4 lakhs:- Alto,Spark,Santro,WagonR..4-5 lakhs:-Swift,Polo,Punto,i20,Indica etc. This list is not exhaustive and if you tell us your exact budget and requirements we can suggest the ideal hatch for you.

Undoubtedly go for petrol car.
All new WagonR with the new K-Series engine will be available soon. Would be worth to wait for it.

Expert`s comment:

For the usage mentioned, Petrol version cars would be better option. The selection mainly depends upon budger and recommended to test drive Indica Vista Petrol.

Why don't you go in for wagonR with the new k-series engine?
It is stylish ,more roomy and spacious boot for extra luggage, powerfull A/c and excellent driving comforts.

Chevrolet Beat is new, sporty, good mileage, good service, & u get Chevrolet 3 year & 45,000 km no maintainence package aswell for which u need to pay somewhere around 10 to 12 thousand but i think its worth....becoz on an average car service we spend around 4 to 5 thousand in which the spares are not i think beat wuld be good for u...

Plenty of choice. Please avoid Tata cars though. They are just grief. Definitely petrol for your amount of expected driving.

Buy a disel hatch. You will shed an extra lakh for it which you get back with intrest when you sell it apart from mileage saving and pleasure of torquy disel engine's performance. Vista is the cheapest of lot.

I have driven indica and also tested Figo.
And I feel Indica is no comparition to The Figo. Check it out.
