Cars Q&A
hey buddy,Firstchoice is not a very good option. Maruti is ok, but they charge tooooo much premium for cars and its not worth it. I myself being a first time buyer went through the same indecisiveness like you are. Saw a lot of used cars and how dealers are ready to rip you off.
So finally I got a brand new Chevy Spark and I am very happy that I didnt buy a old car. If you just add 80 thousand or so to your budget you would get a brand new spark. 3 years service free etc etc.
And moreover a used car is like a big risk for first time buyers like us as we dont know whether the car is good or bad.
All you need to do is to get a good mechanic to certify the car you are thinking of buying. This is just a car you are buying, not a spacecraft. It is fairly easy to see if the engine compression, suspension, chassis, body, electricals and critical parts are in good shape or not. Don't worry about there being some unknown demon in your car. You should be able to get a very good condition Alto, Zen, Santro or even an Opel Corsa or Honda City. Just drive all the cars you find at this budget range, and when you feel happy with the feel of one, get a mechanic to check it out for you. It is worth the Rs.500 you can pay him!
What is your first choice? A sedan or a hatchback?
Can you afford petrol car?. If your annual running will be around 14000-15000 kms, go for petrol.
Petrol hatchback:
1. Zen mpfi: you would get an excellent condition around 2-2.1 lakhs. Low maintenance ,excellent FE(16-17 in city), great resale, wide spread maruti sevice network.
2. Hyundai Santro : Peppy engine, fun to drive. FE 12-14 in city. Good resale(but < Maruti). Spares will be a bit costlier.
Petrol Sedan:
1. Baleno : blindly go for it. One of the best sedans in INDIA. FE 13-14 in city. 17-18 on highway. Completely a drivers car. You would get one in your budget range. I own one and believe me it's amazing.
2. Honda City : A car I have a very high respect for. The only problem is that you not get a good condition one in your budget range.

Hi,
Byuing from Mahindra First choice is a good choice and you get certification for good condition of car but the cst could be bit higher than if bought outside.Advantage is that buying process is lot easier. The best method is to get help from friends familiar with particular car or mechanics for checking approximate condition of car and based on analysis of market value for that model you can buy a car. Here lot of involment is needed.
In the budget range mentioned best selection would be that of a Santro.
I think an ALTO will be better
