Hi,
It will be essential to register changed engine number in RC book and insurance copy.Otherwise it will affect insurance clam and reselling etc. Generally no penalty will be but the procedure of claiming if any will become much tedious and you will have to submit all proof for old engine number and existing engine number. If you have changed engine at authorised dealer/service center, they will help to register the same.

dear vikesh,
as per law.the engine of another vehicle (now a days) is not allowed to be fitted in another..this is to prevent theft..
but people are doing it by changing the engine number..(out of law).
but when we speak about a new engine,if the documents(bill) of the engine is with you, there is no problem in replacing the old engine with it.only thing is that the rto shouldrecord it in your vehicle RC. and NOC is something different..
