Dear Mr Shiva I got Alto 1.1 VXi year 2000 without p/s. The steering is very very hard even when the vehicle is moving. I got it repaired twice but didn't work. How it can be made smoother and lighter? how much will be the expenses if I fit power steering. I heard that the steering of Alto is always hard.

Dear Rony,

Give it a last try by inflating the front tyres to 35 PSA and you will find it easier to manouveur now.In addition to this if you have any nitrogen filling station , you will definiotely feel the difference.

As far as the Power steering unit (ELPS) will cost you Rs 25000/-.

Thanks for your suggestions. Can you tell me more about nitrogen filling. I don't think we have anything like that in Delhi

Hi,
The manual steering is bit harder durng taking turns while moving at slow speed. Generally steering ecomes bit easier after lubrication of steering assembly. If hardness still persists the remedy lies in replacement . Power steering can be fitted with cost of around 30k.

Dear Rony

I was having similar (hard steering) problem with my Alto - 2003. I changed the front tyres & got the realingment of the wheels done and the handling became smoother.
