Cars Q&A

This is going to be my first car. What should I buy in a 4 lac budget? Wagon R or Santro Xing. Please also advice the version. My requirement is larger carrying capacity and boot space coupled with low maintenance cost. Can you tell me whether it is correct that Hundai cars has more maintenance cost than Maruti cars. If yes can it be roughly quantified?

I would suggest latest MARUTI EECHO for you, as it has peppy 1200cc K series BIV norms engine. More leg room and boot space. Easy to drive and more flexible in seating than the cramped wagonR or Santro.

Expert`s comment:

In the budget range mentioned, Santro Xing is a good option. Also recommended to test drive base model of Beat.

if you are looking at boot space both R Wagon and Santro fail short of the same. The new EECO which is updated Versa ie stripped version and on road in Mumabai for 5 seater AC is 3.42 Lakhs. But this is a van not a small car. Look at Beat or wait for Figo from Ford and then decide

I was using the old Santro Zipdrive, and now a Xing. I evaluated all the requirement as you mentioned for a family of 4 like me and decided to go for Santro Xing. Beat has smaller Boot space. WagnonR is compact with better legroom, Eeco is comparabily bigger. i suggest Santro for a small family and Eeco for a bigger 5-6 member family.
