Great question. Truth is - no internal combustion engine, whether petrol or diesel, two stroke or four stroke, has changed much since invention. The combustion cycles are exactly the same, but efficiencies have increased by better intake design, valve design, better materials, better heat management, fuel delivery to the combustion chamber etc. These are all improvements and not new "technologies". Don't be fooled by any new name like "Kappa", "Gamma" etc. The engine is the same old rubbish, but manufacturers like to imagine they are doing something revolutionary. Nobody has changed anything fundamentally.
