Cars Q&A

Question
Does automatic transmission in cars reduce milaege??
By Sri 11 November 2009
Answers:

Most definitely cars with automatic transmission give lesser fuel mileage. Just go to Yahoo! cars and check out the mileage figures for manual and auto cars of the same brand and model. It is not so much that the transmissions themselves are less efficient, but because you cannot drive at engine revolutions of your preference.

Dear Sir
This is rajesh form hyderabad im working as a Diagnosis technician in Audi AS off my knowledge different will be there manual and auto not more the 2 or 3 kms why mileage is decressing in atomatic transmission when apply the bread gears will come down to 1st gear again when u rise the accelater gears will shifted to 1st ot one by one will shift to top gear it's dipends on engine spped. when u incress engine speed in gear box oil pressure will incress if pressure is incressing gears will shifted to top gaars. in manual transmission accoding engine rpm manualley will shift by hand thats why mileage get difference.

Yes - A/T equipped vehicles prove to be higher fuel consumption vehicles than M/T equipped. Reason : Losses occuring inside transmission unit where more components like torque converter, drive & driven plates, etc which all function on Oil pressure. And also Max. speed A/T vehicles are lower to that of M/T.

No doubt AT gives less but I would like to get answer from my knowledgeable auto friends who are nowadays much technically superior to my time i,e 1950,60,70,80,90.But after 2000, people who own cars are all Automobile Engineers. Good Show.

Once question is that in AT, the engine rpm is at the best rpm when it is in Drive mode, and why it is giving less kmpl, than a manual? I know the answer but would like to get from the others also whether they also have the same answer.

Hi,
In practice the mileage of AT version will be lower by 1 or 2 KMPL on account of power utilised in torque converter at various speed.
