Cars Q&A

Question
I have a Bajaj Boxer bike(12,000 kms done). I have not used it for the past 2 years. Now I would again be using it full time. Please let me know what are the checks and maintenace that I need to look into and the approximate cost so that I would get it into running condition. Earlier my bike used to give a mileage of 65km/lit, but recently it gave just 50 km/lit. -ram

Hi,
Give it for service and replace engine oil and get other maintenance repairs done as required. Later you can get a good mileage around 55KMPL or so.

There is no reason your mileage should drop that much just because you did not ride your bike for so long. Change the air filter element, the engine oil, and check all the rubber and gasket parts. Sometimes, these things can develop cracks and leaks over long periods of non usage. Specifically, check your engine gasket, maybe even after riding for say 200 km. Any signs of leakage, get it replaced. You should come back to your original mileage or very close to it after this.
