Cars Q&A

Question
I want to sell current car (1 yr 8 months with 24 thousang KMS and good condition). Wanted to know whats the market practice of valuation for selling. 1) Is it based on the Ex-Showroom price ? or 2) RTO and Octroi expenses must be excluded from depreciation? 3) How much is the depriciation each year ? 4) Also depriciation should be calculated based on year of maufacturing or year of registraion ? My car is 2007 make but registered and used in Jan 2008. Thanks

Answers:

Dear Navin,

Used-car prices are very subjective and depend on a large number of factors (make, model, success of model, demand, etc). They do not follow a simple depreciation schedule. Your best bet would be to get an indicative price by using used-car price calculator.

To answer your questions.

1. Based on ex-showroom price
2. Yes
3. Depends on model to model
4. Depends on the negotiation with the seller/buyer

Hi,
As pointed out by VeriCAR the price depends upon so many factors including the urgency of the seller to sell the car and willingness of the buyer.
