as your monthly running will be more than 1000 kms, a diesel engine is appropriate for you. Looking at your budget and as you are tall, i would suggest for Maruti Ritz which is latest and is a good family car. Fiat punto 1.4 is also good, but you need to find out the service/spares with the dealer. Although you have a lot of options like, Ford ikon diesel, Hyundai Accent CNG, etc. i20 diesel is a fantastic car, great power, style etc. it is too costly. About 7.5 lac on road top end version.

According to me you can go for Honda City 2000 till 2006 model get lPG / CNG fitted it will do well and fit in your buget. As you are a doctor, you mut have a big car too....
I have short listed SUV Captiva 2006 model for 8.5L, 75000 km done black color....have fun...

If you can wait till Jan 2010, many a cars in the segment are being released, also the prices of Hyundai and Chevrollete may be revised.
Currently Punto and Ritz are among the best.

Go for Maruthi ZEN ESTILO, it has three varients and also a limited edition SPORTS which is fully loaded and have very good looks. recently i have purchased one and it is very worth of money. mileage 15+ kms in city and 18+ on highway with a/c on. I'll advice see this car before going for others, I have seen most of cars before coming to this and happy with the selection. now with offer you can get for 3.6 to 3.7 lakh.

swift vxi is good option also i10 is good

punto diesel or swift/dezire diesel (if you want a sedan) are possible options. On the higher end you have fiat linea that gives a very good ride. Always go for a diesel car that gives more value for money, mileage and more refinement as regards the engine. Even the Ford fiesta SXi diesel could also be considered.

Wagon R is better for your Requirement, because Mr. Siva has not recommended Desil Versions in View of Maintenance Problems.Because you are Busy man it is suggest to have Marutyhi Wagan-R

Hi,Swift Diesel & indica vista is the best car that suits ur needs,but if u can extend ur budget,then go i20 or skoda fabia diesel, these are best diesel cars. Fiat punto is under powered and engine is not refined as vista and swift, since both of them carry fiat engine, they are beautifully refined and vista drives better than swift. Have a test drive for all the vehicles.

If u use your grey cells, instead of the over worked wet ears, you will arrive at the right choice (FIAT GRANDE PUNTO), take a test drive of all the cars and come back and tell me. Will pay your 1year maintenance if I am proved wrong !!!!!!!

at ur range,i wld recomend u either go for the swift diesel or the indica vista quadrajet....
remember the diesel engines used in these cars hve very low maintainance cost....almost comparable 2 the petrol ones as the economy is also very gud......so u d actually hve more savings than what u spend on their maintainance...
in my opinion,go for one of these cars,where ever u get better customer service...becauce,without gud after sales service,even the best cars r of no use......
