Cars Q&A

Question
I have a chevrolet SPARK LT and have to drive in a township/ manufacturing premises with speed limits of 30kmph/ 40kmph and the fuel efficiency is too low say around 12 kmpl. For a brief period I tried 30 kmph in fourth gear and 40 kmph in top gear and fuel efficiency increased and the lugging was not noticed. Is there any risk in running the car at low RPM/ Low speed for a given gear.

Hi
Though the car runs best in top gear .It is always good to run the engine at prescribed speed for the good life of gears.

The Spark has enough torque to pull from low speeds even in higher gears. So, it will not damage the car if you shift to the 4th gear at 30kmph. However, I would say that top gear (5th) should be engaged only if you are crossing 50kmph, the reason being that its an overdrive.
