Cars Q&A
40-50K max ...with repairs of assuming 15-20K, your costing will come around 70-75K, which is also actually high for 14 yr old car that also for LX i.e. without power steering. Also keep the cost of battery and of 4 tyres in the coming months. If its brand new battery and tyre, then its okay
Dear Aviral,
Firstly , are you sure you want to go for such an old vehicle, its already 14 years old. Over and above my judgement is that the car could have done till date, 180000 kms... theres no way to check that out, unless the owner is known to you and wont fool around.
Secondly, the car would now undoubtedly require numerous hidden repairs/ replacements, some of which could be visibily seen, many cannot be.
Thirdly , have you properly checked if this car is not an accidental damaged car/ damaged Chassis [ since you wrote that the car has been recently painted ... why should an owner repaint a car fully and immediately seel it? ].
If money is really an issue, then you should be able to negotiate this vehicle at around 30- 35000, nothing more..
If you anyway buy this vehicle at whatever cost comfortable to you, you woulld still need to replace damaged tyres, timing belts, spark plugs, check car electricals, engine parts.. [ depending on the present condition ]some spend on interiors..under body rust and metal corrosion, depending on the present condition....
This extra works would easily require nothing less than another 35- 40000 ..
If you add this total to your cost of purchase, my recommendation to you would be , you could easily get a much better vehicle of recent make[ 2001- 2002 + make ] that would be in a much better running and engine condition than the older one.
You could alternatively also buy any other sturdy car like a Fiat Palio, Petra, Sienna at around the same earlier cost
Do take a pragmatic view and a cost benefit analysis done before you take a decision. It should save you a lot of headache later.

Anand

In think 50K max. should be the right price. I also have Esteem '98 LX with new tyres, battery, comprehensive insurance till dec.09, electrical centre locking and body colour bumpers and very good condition, 60000 km and the price should be between 85k to 90k. If interested pl. contact.
Around 50 max 55k.
i hav used esteem vx 96 model for long.n by now i hv a a good idea bout d probs encountered in such old cars.i doubt if d car wud hv actually done only 80000 kms.secondly im sure d engine must not b in a gr8 condlition.moreover,d second hand car market is really low as there r many more cheaper options available.n keeping in mind the maintenance u gonna face with tat car,its really not advisable to go for it.it will make u cry.literally.i dont think u should pay nethin more than 25-28k for it.u shud look out for a newer model, mebbe after 2000 which u shud get for around 75-80k.even zen would b a good option.
Hi aviral, I think Mr.Anand has covered almost all things. I agree with him. Once you just think abt it an go ahead.

Hi,
Esteem of 95 will be worth buying for around 60 to 75 k.provided in reasonably good condition. You can get the general checkup done by any authorised service center before finalysing the deal.
DONOT BUY SUCH AN OLD CAR.BARGAIN FOR MAXM 30K OTHERWISE LEAVE IT.DONOT BUY SUCH OLD VEHICLES WHICH WILL RUIN YOUR POCKET IN LONGRUN
before buying my car , i have had tried all options, so i can advise anyone buying second hand cars.,
the price maximum u can buy the vehicle is 25k, but be ready to spend atleast a lakh to get it on the road!
better dont buy!
afterwards THE CHOICE IS YOURS!
i have read reviews by so called car experts!!! for your questions, asking to buy for 75k,i wonder....................
this is my advise!!
REST- THE CHOICE AND FATE IS YOURS!
