FIAT Grande Punto is the clear choice. Its the best small diesel engine in the world today and a Grande Punto is a visual treat like no other. The ride & handling is superb and it is the safest hatch. FIAT probably has more 5star rating for small cars in EURO NCAAP than any other car manufacturer.

Grand Punto is good car no doubt u can go for punto but u have few other options too, if u wanna go for a sedan thn u can buy ford ikon 1.4 tdci the best value for money diesel car.

If you want a hatchback then the order of preference should be the following

1. Fiat Punto - great looks, excellent equipment list, solid build and ride quality, an allrounder giving you fantastic value for money, flip side is dodgy after sales service and not a proven vehicle yet

2. Ford Fusion Tdci - most spacious of the lot, mini suv, biggest boot, frugal engine but most expensive of the lot

3. Swift Diesel - Reliable, low maintenance cost, proven vehicle, but low on the oomph factor, no features other than power windows and power steering (not even the rear parcel tray even with top end vdi model)

4. Tata Indica Vista - Value for money, flip side is poor quality interiors except the dashboard, go for it if you are a die hard tata fan

If you are interested in a sedan version then this is what you should look for

1. Swift Dzire Vdi - Great value for money package, but go for it only if you like the look (personally speaking I don't) and willing to wait for 6 months

2. Ford Ikon - Competitvely priced but go for it only if you cant wait for the Dzire, dated looks and unsafe body shell

3 Tata Ingio - Again buy it if there is no choice, would suggest wait for indigo vista if tata is the only thing on your mind
