Both the SWIFT Diesel and Fiat Punto are great cars. Both use the same diesel engine the 1.3 multi jet engine which is world renowned engine. But the Suzuki guys have tuned the Swift Diesel engine in a great way which provides a superb feel and power they call it the DDIS engine. I drove the Punto and i feel the multijet engine is smooth but a little noisy and feel a little lack of power in lower gears the tubo charger kicksin a little later and so i felt the drag. Not much but surely ...........Maruti back up is excellent I dont know how it is now for FIAT both are brillant cars and you can choose either one.

Swift Diesel is more refined and excellent pick up, moreover maruti maintenance is cheaper than fiat

Undoubtedly the FIAT. If FIAT is designed and developed the engine, don't you think they will now better than anyone else. Look at the 1.30 engine in the LINEA, its the same basic engine that there in a range of FIAT, Tata & Maruti cars, but give 25% more power because of its Variable Geometry Turbo.

If you want to buy a small engined, diesel car, the FIAT is the world best choice.

It all depends on what you are looking for at a given price. The Swift is comparatively much smaller and cheaper than the GP with the same engine. Swift is a trouble free car and clubbed the engine well with its setup. However, the build quality and space/comfort is not exactly as good as a premium hatch - GP. Overall, looking at the price tag coupled with service-support,maintenance cost and features SWIFT emerges as a winner.

Oh I forgot to mention.. Swift has a better average and is fun to drive... :) Make ur choice.Jasv
