There are couple of other solutions such as fuel cat and fuel additives are available to boost the milage, though on practicle grounds just try using good quality diesel (do keep an eye on quantity of diesel released by pump)& dont go for High speed diesel etc. tyre Air pressure, ad routine / timely maintenance. Additionally if the fuel consumption is ridiculosly high , get your primary & secondary diesel filter checked.

Give your car for periodic servicing, most important part is the good driving habit, Don't accelerate the car first gear or second gear, acquire smooth acceleration, its not like other light weight car.
