Cars Q&A

Hi team, I am planning to buy a used Honda Civic. Details are as below VMT - 2009 -- Single owner -- Petrol -- 26,000 on odometer -- Asking price 4.2L Could you please clarify few of my concerns? - Civic was discontinued in 2012. So any difficulty in availability, price of spares. Now that rupee has appreciated - mileage to expect and frequency of repairs required considering a 6 year old car - average spend on maintenance to expect - resale value to expect in next 3 years? Would appreciate speedy and honest advice. Thanks!

  • Expert Hi Rishi. Though the car has been less run, you need to consider the fact that vehicle is not longer in production. Finding spares would be slightly difficult and expensive. Suggest you opt for Honda City instead. Yes, the Civic is indeed a brilliant performer, but mileage is low and you may only opt for this if you are keen on it driving it for fun with no impressive resale value as such. After 3 years you may expect 2.5-3.0 lakhs depending on its condition then.

  • Considering price of 4.2 lacs of 26k done Civic is a good deal:
1). Spares you will get in market easily till 2027 (i.e. 15 years from the date of discontinuation). A little expensive spare should not bother you.
2). Mileage of 10-12 kmpl you can expect as a minimum.
3). I won't think any type of maintenance expences apart from regular service till it crosses 60K kms.
4). Resale Value after 3 years: Around 3 lacs.
