Cars Q&A

I am planning to buy a sedan and tried to find out whether Etios would suit me. Did a test drive in Chennai city roads. I am fine with the vehicle pickup and the airconditioning, but quite doubtful on the following a) I think i hear more noise. Even while giving accelerator, i can hear the vehicle engine sound. I did not feel that way in Hyundai I20 or Figo. b) Since the weight of the vehicle is just 915 Kgs, i am quite doubtful whether the vehicle can reach top speed beyond 100 and would it be stable at that speed. Not sure what would be the noise level at that point in time. c) Door opening and closing sound is really bad. I tried Maruti Swift Dzire, Fiesta and all are looking good, but the door looks bad. I am very much worried on this door closing as i see that it does not make me feel good at all. Really bad. d) My plan is to retain any vehicle for 6-8 years. Not sure whether this vehicle would last so long if i try to take this for around a lakh of kilometer. My family has 5 members and we are reasonably fat and 5 of us would weight 350 Kgs average. Is the vehicle capable of pulling it. e) Finally suggest me on the following keeping in my mind that my annual usage is roughly 11000 kms out of which 60% is city driving and balance is outstantion drivinig. i) Should i buy Etios. If not at a budget of 7 lakhs what do you think i should buy. Is Vento a good choice keeping the mileage expectations. ii) When is the new Fiesta coming. What is the price point you expect. iii) Should i plan for a diesel vehicle. I understand that new models from Nissan (Sunshine) and Honda are hitting the market in 2011. My budget at the max can go 7.5 lakhs iii) Should i go back to hatchback itself and wait for Toyoto Liva and Hondo Brio. I need some good features like Internal electrically adjustable mirrors, Blue tooth enabled. Not very much looking at safety features like ABS, EBD

Expert`s comment:

For the requirments mentioned, recomended to test drive Tata Indigo Manza. It has good combination of power, styling and build quality. However Alternativvely Fiat Linea would be best selection.

Hello Mr.K murali.
i think it would be too early going for toyota etios, thiugh its from brand like toyota which has very reputed image on global world.
i think this car can be great, if you can wait for few months , you can check out viewer's review.
But ultimately your decesion would be final and afcourse not of people.

i think if you can go for volkswagen then there isno harm going for linea. fiat is now much better after sales services.

The best car going now is swift dzire. Unbeatable in all aspects till now.
going for it would be a good option.

I am using Hyundai i20 1.4 crdi (diesel) and i am satisfied with the car.
it is big like sedan and boot space is biggest in hatch.
the car can fit 5 people and its power is also good.ample leg space and feature like electrically foldable mirror is also there.
The only thing is diesel engines require some extra ordinary attention.
i won't suggest to go for petrol as you might feel it underpowered.

but if you want sedan only then maruti swift dzire for now.
