maruti sx4 is a good choice if you are not too concerned about fuel economy. As per maruti standards this is a big car and big cars dont return double figure mileage as stated to me by teh service engineer at maruti workshop during routine service. So if you are looking for a stylish option this is one of teh many. Another good option is the VW vento...and the fiat linea albeit they are both on the far end of your price range but certainly worth every extra buck.

I think FIAT LINEA is the best bet when when you compare cars in that price range (whether its a diesel or petrol). Now you have the Linea t-jet which can only be compared against bigger cars like jetta, corolla or cruze. Actually Linea is sold in many markets as a corolloa competitor. Docnt mind the bogus comments like -not powerful etc. Its as powerful as any other car (dont go with the paper). It has the best ride, handling, safety feel etc on this side of 11 lakhs, i dont think any other cars (even the new VW vento come closer). I have written based on my experience with linea and verna. If you are looking for a proper sedan luxury, Maruti SX4 is not your choice!

Sir, I have both Sx4 and Dzire and I say SX4 is better in many respects than Dzire except Mileage.But Maruti has only two Sedan version and rest are hatchback.

I agree with Hirankr and Samar nothing to beat Fiat Linea in this bracket.
Only Tom Dick and Harry go for other brands as you can see they are sold in more numbers.
If you looking for Power,Pleasur and safety Fiat Cars are the one to see.

If you can stretch your budget to 10L, then honda city is the best option.
