Expert`s comment:

The function of Turbo is to induce swirl to the fuel air mixture in combustion chamber so that the flame travel and hence burning of fuel is efficient. Though generally its used in diesel engines, the same can be applied to petrol engines with suitable design.

Turbochargers are used in engines to supply intake air in sufficient pressure at reasonable high temperature to make the combustion more efficient & to scavenge the exhaust towards the end of the fourth stroke. They are normally Exhaust driven single row turbine connected to a rotary compressor. It can be fitted to petrol as well as Diesel engines.
